TITLE: Tokyo Lights
AUTHOR: EZCN!
SUMMARY: Horikita as a part-time prostitute. Yamashita as a host.
RATING: Borderlining NC-17 for most of the chapters.
GENRE: Angst, AU
STARTING DATE: 26th October, 2008.
NOTES: My potential story for potential smut. (laughs)

"When I first came, the lights shone brightly. It was welcoming, and it felt like home, even though I've never even been in Tokyo before. The warmth was overwhelming then. I was young and I was stupid. I thought I could come to Tokyo and make it big, then become some sort of a legend. They're right, though - Tokyo is where dreams are snatched away from you without you even realising it. Do I regret coming? 'No, I don't.' At least, that's what I'm telling myself. Now, even as I look up at the Tokyo lights - twinkling prettily, but no longer welcoming in my eyes - I'm not so sure any more."

"How did I get here, again? People always said, 'Sugoi, Yamapi is going to be a big star in the future. Look at him, with his pretty face and his pretty words.' I suppose I am a star, in some ways or another, but just not in the way that people imagined. Certainly not in the way that I had imagined - I never did imagine having to work late hours as, and this is the better way to say it, escorts for lonely ladies. I'm not ashamed, but I do wonder if there is more to life than this. At first it was amusing, but everything became a routine - be called over by some rich woman, sweet talk the woman into buying more drinks, or even just tipping right into my breast pocket, puke until I get all the alcohol out of my system, then escort the woman home. If I'm lucky, I get to leave without having to escort the lady into the bed, but I've learned that luck likes to play games with life. At least, with my life."

Two broken souls. Two lost dreams. What happens when they collide?

CHAPTER ONE.

"Let go!"

It was just another night. The lights were twinkling overhead as a girl struggled against a male - an extremely drunk male, that is. Her arms were sore from the tugging, and he didn't seem to be close to sobering up anytime soon. The man grinned stupidly at the girl, eying her exposed cleavage as he continued to push himself onto her.

"Come on." He slurred, causing the girl to wince from the sake in his breath. "Come on, hic, Maki. You know I, hic, pay a lot."

She felt a pang in her heart, and she tried to shrug him off again. He wouldn't budge. Instead, they collapsed against the wall, with the man pressing against her. "Takahira, get off me!" He didn't listen, or maybe he couldn't. Either way, he was ignoring her as he leaned in for a sloppy kiss. He missed, his lips brushing against her cheek instead. Again, she found herself wincing from the smell of sake, but she had worse things to worry about than the disturbing smell of sake. The buttons on her shirt popped off as he tugged at her shirt persistently, and she felt the rush of cold air over her.

Strangely enough, she found herself wishing that she had worn a bra.

"I want you." The girl was suddenly aware of his erection on her stomach, and the pain between her legs. She had just come from a job. She really didn't need this. "Fuck off, Takahira!" She cried, trying to kick him. He was too strong for her. Of course. They were always too strong for her. He smirked at her. He was getting sober, but that was just going to make it worse.

He ran a finger over the scar across her breast, then smiled. "This always turns me on." For a moment, they simply stare at each other. One smug, and one hateful. He grabbed the back of her leg, then ran his hand down it, searching for the thick, rough line. He stroked it when he found it. "This, too." She glared at him, no longer needing words to convey her hatred. "I pay more than the others." He said again - reminding her; taunting her.

The way he knew so much about her made her hate him even more.

"Fuck. Off."

And of course he did not listen, slapping her instead. "Say that again." He said, his voice low. She looked right into his eyes. "Fuck off, I said." She shifted, trying to get away. But he grabbed her chin, holding it so he was lifting her head to look at him. "You're mine, you little bitch." Again, they stared. She moved first, spitting right into his eyes. He stumbled, giving her the chance to jump out from his grasp. As she held her shirt together, she started to walk away, but not before she turned back to look at him.

"I'm not yours, no matter how much more you pay."

CHAPTER TWO.

The sound of rushing water seemed to add to his headache. He groaned, wiping his mouth with the back of his wet hand. Glancing in the mirror, he couldn't help but curse silently, wincing at his appearance. He was a mess. 'It's a wonder that women still ask for me.' He thought, twisting the tap to stop the water flow.

One of the things that he truly hated about being a host is the amount of alcohol that he has to endure each day. He wasn't the best drinker in the world, and never will be, either. Sure, he never does seem to get drunk, but that's only because he excuses himself every hour or so to vomit in the staff bathroom. Even though it's Yamashita, it's not a pretty sight. His clients never seem to understand that simple fact, though. He was never 'being humble' when he says that he cannot hold his drink well. Yes, he's a host. And yes, hosts are supposed to be good drinkers - but there are always exceptions, and Yamapi is one. A damn exceptional one, too.

Cleaning himself with the towel that hung under his name, he groaned again. Even pressing the towel to his face was making his head hurt. He needed some fresh air.

The window swung open with a low creak, and he was immediately enveloped in the pleasantly sweet freshness of the wind. His eyes lingered on the city lights as he let the air clear his mind. From here, he couldn't hear the sound of city life - only the lights told him that he was in Tokyo. He wondered why he no longer felt hope at the sight of the bright lights.

"Let go!" It was a girl's voice - fearful, yet fierce at the same time. Leaning out slightly to search for the source of the voice, Yamapi found himself looking directly down at the slight struggle between the girl - who he assumed was the one that had cried out - and a man. The girl didn't seem like she could fend off the taller, stronger man. Instead, she was merely struggling against his drunken hold on her. Despite her fierce demand from just a second ago, it was obvious that she was physically weaker.

Before he knew what the hell he was doing, Yamapi was darting out of the host club with a hasty 'I'll be right back'.

Honestly, he didn't know why he felt the need to help the girl. Things like that happen everyday behind their club, despite the clean image that the club maintained. All of them hosts more than often have to put a blind eye over whatever is happening in the back alley, so the overwhelming need to save the girl was strange. Even as he skidded to a stop at the other end of the alleyway, Yamapi couldn't help but wonder if this was just another way to make himself feel good about himself. It would certainly make him seem like a hero, and then the girl would be in debt to him. He couldn't deny that being able to save a girl would make him look and feel good.

Not that the girl needed any saving. Light was shining from behind her, and in spite of the fact that her shirt had to be held together by a shaky hand, there was still an obvious air of pride and defiance in her voice as she retorted back to the drunkard's offer to buy her body. 'She's her own hero,' was what Pi thought to himself as he felt the man scramble pass him with a flustered grunt.

"I'm not yours, no matter how much more you pay."

-----

It was like he was in a trance. He found himself following her, even though there was a tiny voice in the back of his mind, nagging him to return his ass back to Johnny's. 'This is not right,' Was that said by the devil on his right shoulder, or the angel on his left? He couldn't tell. 'Doesn't following her make you creepier than that guy from earlier?' He didn't agree, opting to ignore the falsely worried voice that soon faded to a muffled whisper.

She stumbled, and Yamapi reached out, as though to give her hand, but pulled back the moment he found his arm outstretched. He held his arm firmly by his side, simply watching as her pace returned to a pathetic limp. Her shoulders were pushed back and squared. She was determined. Again, Pi found himself musing over how she was saving herself.

They didn't walk far, and, given the girl's limp, Yamapi hadn't expected they would.

When he was sure that the girl had settled onto the stone bench with her hands pressing gently on her swollen ankle, he finally tore his eyes off her, taking a moment to figure out where they were. They were at a park - one that he has never ever seen before today. Judging from the dirty, graffiti-covered slides, the park had long since been abandoned. Yamapi could almost imagine the creak of the swing, if someone were to attempt to swing on it. That is, if it doesn't rust off being a single swing could be made. Other than the swings and the metal slides, there was only stone benches and nothing else. No wonder people don't come here anymore. It's just another sad, little park that has been deemed useless. Sort of like him, actually. It was just as woeful.

His attention turned back to the girl after his quick survey of the park, only to be greeted by the sight of her lying sideways on the bench.

Initially, he had not intended to rush over to the girl. Well, of course he hadn't. After all, he didn't expect her to just collapse; especially not after seeing her push away a sexual deal, and still be able to limp so arrogantly onwards. Actually, he wasn't so sure as to what he was going to do - stay at the park until he got bored of staring at her back, or fed up with not being able to see her face? Follow her again when she starts to move, all the way to her house, just to make sure that she gets home fine? Now that was starting to sound a little creepy.

Either way, Yamapi was rushing over to her side. "Oi!" He kneeled down so that he was on eye level with her, and was immediately struck by how peaceful she looked. The dim streetlights casted shadows across her face, but it was bright enough that he could see the faint smile on her face. He also didn't fail to notice her loosened grip on her shirt, exposing the top of her right breast - exposing enough for him to see the pale, yet painstakingly obvious, scar. Pausing, he frowned. The scar was thick, smooth, and very long - it was so long that he couldn't see the ends of it, which he could only assume that they were hidden by the parts that her shirt could cover. He couldn't believe that someone who has such a peaceful face could possibly have such a rough scar across their chest. In fact, he couldn't believe that she was the type that would walk around, late at night, without a bra on. Maybe that was when Pi found himself twisted in Maki's affairs.

Shaking his head, he returned his attention back to the girl's face. It was none of his business.

"Oi." His voice was much softer this time as he reached over to shake her arm gently. He wasn't an expert at these type of situation, but she didn't seem to be in any life-threatening situation. It was just, if she laid there with her shirt half-open, then it would be easy for a male to just come along and take advantage of her. The girl groaned, the sound emitting softly from deep in her throat, as her eyes fluttered. She shifted slightly, then slowly opened her eyes.

She blinked at him in confusion. 'Where am I and why is my bed so hard?' was basically what her face was saying at that moment. Yamapi chuckled nervously, relieved. He wouldn't know what he'd do if she really fainted. "Are you okay?" He asked, and she nodded, hand lifting to rub childishly at her eyes. Placing his hands firmly on the side of her arms, Pi lifted her so she was sitting upright. She let him, hands still rubbing. He watched her for a moment before pulling her hands down, knowing that she wouldn't have stopped if he didn't stop her.

The girl simply stared at him - eyes strangely doe-like - before stretching her arms into the air, arching her back. And... Oh, God. Yamapi looked away, his cheeks warming. He was used to girls stripping right in his face (which is, apparently, their method of 'seduction'), but catching glimpses of this particular girl's breasts made him extremely uncomfortable.

She smirked at him, as though knowing that she had that effect on him, but the twisted smile soon slipped from her face - Yamapi wondered if she really did smirk, or if it was just his eyes playing tricks on him. Worse yet, perhaps he had imagined it, just so he could find more to like about the girl with the innocent face and the smug attitude. He shook the thoughts from his head, knowing that it would do him no good to think too deeply into it. But it was like he couldn't help it.

As soon as the smirk (if it was really there in the first place...) fainted, leaving no hint of its previous existent, the girl dropped her arms in shock, crossing her arms quickly over her exposed frame. "Kya!" She squeaked, surprised. Yamapi, as the gentleman-in-training that he is, stood up and looked away again, trying to act like he saw nothing. It was just for show.

That is, they were both just putting up an awkwardly fake act.

Pulling off his jacket, he dumped it on her, leaving only her nose showing. With an uncomfortable, but undoubtedly grateful, utter, she slipped it on. He finally looked down at her once she had buttoned up all the buttons. The suit jacket - one that would fit him well in the host environment - covered up all her sexual clothing. Yamapi was once again surprised by the innocence that she exuded. He felt that there wasn't the need for her to dress up in such an attention-seeking way. Not one to bottle up his feelings, he pointed it out. "I don't think you need to wear clothes that scream 'look at me' to be noticed." He said, though he was quick to realise that he really wasn't any of his business.

"Hm?" The girl didn't seem to mind, though, tilting her head slightly in a thoughtful way. "It's for work, so it's fine, right?" It was like she was really asking him for his opinion, but he didn't give one.

He stood there, but sat down as he started to feel awkward about standing. Looking at her from sideways, the lights seemed to dance across her face. It was a wonder that she could remain so calm after what had just happened to her - then again, from the way that she rejected the man, like a heroine from her self-cast movie, Yamapi thought that things like that must happen to her all the time.

Still... "Are you sure you're okay?" Yamapi asked, his arm lifting to gesture wildly towards where they had just came from. If she doesn't acknowledge what he was talking about, then it doesn't matter - he would not persist. After all, it would be a sign that she doesn't want to talk about it. Just because he's a host, he's not insensitive. In fact, it's quite the contrary. He's probably the most sensitive one out of the bundle of guys gathered at the host club.

Her head turned to look at him, not even bothering to look at where he was gesturing at. He thought he saw a flicker of sadness.

But her head was turned away again, even though she nodded in reply to his question. "You saw?" She asked, her voice small. And he nodded, even though she wasn't looking at him. There was no need for her to, either, because the answer was obvious. He would not have asked if he did not see, after all. They did not speak, and after a while, she spoke up again, the voice a confident reflection of before. "I'm fine." There was a slight hint of a smile in her voice, but that, too, was faked. "It happens all the time. It's part of the job anyway, so I'm used to it."

It was like she was trying to convince herself.

Yamapi, though not more convinced about than her, did not push her for more. It wasn't like it was a topic that strangers would share with each other. The world does not work like that. People don't become best friends the moment they meet, nor do they find true love at first sight. The girl obviously wasn't going to reveal her life secrets to him just because he happened to come across her when she fell asleep at the stone bench. No, that's not how it all works.

The conversation fell into comfortable silence once again, as they both enjoyed a stranger's company. Wordlessly, they both looked over the rusty swings at the bright moon. 'A sad moon,' Yamapi noted to himself. 'Just like us.' It was a moon that needs the sun's support to shine so brightly.

Although the two did not speak, they liked the fact that someone was sitting beside them - giving them a sense of unconditional support, even though it was temporary. After all, they were strangers. Things like these are surreal, and therefore only happens once in a lifetime. That's what they thought, which is why they were neither disappointed nor relieved as a man jogged towards them, only to disrupt their comfortable silence. "Yamapi!" The man yelled, and the wind seemed to shiver with his voice. "Yamapi!" He yelled again. If they were any closer to a neighbourhood area, there would surely be buckets of water and 'shut-the-hell-up's being tossed out of windows by now.

"Jin." Yamapi said, surprise in his tone.

The man named Jin looked at him with a frown. "Don't you 'Jin' me. Ichikawa-san was going on and on about how you disappeared off to the bathroom, then disappeared completely. Ugh, that girl gives me a headache." Jin rolled his eyes with an exasperated mix between a grunt and a sigh. Then his eyes finally settled on the fact that his friend had a girl sitting beside him. "And here you are, wooing girls that aren't even paying you to woo them? Come on, Pi. Ichikawa is a pain in the ass, and she's your client." Rather impatiently, he crossed his arms across his chest, and even made a move to pull Yamapi from where he sat. He needn't do that, though, for Pi was already standing up.

He looked at the girl. "Are you going to be alright?" He asked, genuinely worried.

Again, she looked at him with that smirk. Unlike before, it lingered for more than a little while, before it turned into a smile of some sort. "Thanks for your jacket." She answered instead, ignoring his question. She turned to leave, but Yamapi called after her. Something was telling him not to let her walk off so easily. He, at the very least, should get her name. "What's your name?" He called out. The girl didn't let him regret calling out for long, before turning her head slightly, shouting out with her arrogant voice - imperfect, yet all the more perfect because of that - over her shoulder.

"It's Horikita."

Jin started to pull him away then, grumbling on about how annoying it was that he had to baby his best friend. Said best friend was still looking back, watching Horikita walk away with ease. He couldn't help but wonder if she was the same girl that he had spotted struggling against that man in the alleyway.

Then he realised that he didn't tell her his name.
